Non-attendance:
In the event of non-attendance or arriving late to classes it is not possible to provide alternative studio time or for a class to be rescheduled. Your class is at a set time on a set day to help cover the cost of tuition and for you to benefit from the planned structure of the lessons. The classes are typically full so it is not always possible to swap class or use the studio outside of the allotted class times to catch up.
If you have to miss a class and we are given at least a weeks notice we will try and find a make up class for you within your 6 week block, but please be aware this may not always be possible.

Cancellations must be made in writing by email..
For courses and workshops we can only provide a refund (minus a 10% handling fee) for cancellations made more than 7 days before the start date of the course. For cancellations made less than 7 days before the course or workshop there will be no refund or transfers.
All clients are asked to agree to our terms and conditions upon booking a course or workshop.
If we cancel your course or workshop you will be offered a full refund or a gift card to the same value of your course or workshop. Where possible you may be offered an alternative session.
Once you have committed to a course or workshop, we recommend that you attend the scheduled number of sessions to get the most out of the course and planned sessions. If the participant fails to attend all or any part of the course the full course fees are payable and we do not offer full or partial course date transfers.
Transfers:
Any requests for transfer to an alternative course or workshop must be made in writing by email, and done at least 7 days before the course or workshop start date. However, transfers are subject to availability and we have no obligation to ensure suitable alternatives are available.
A booking can only be transferred on one occasion. Requests for subsequent transfers will be treated as cancellations.
Course Content:
We reserve the right to change the timing, date or instructor of the course in order to provide a good quality service or where it is necessary for reasons beyond our control.
Sheen Pottery Studio reserves the right to cancel a course up to an including the date of the course if insufficient bookings have been received and will try to give as much notice as possible. Individuals booked onto a cancelled course will be given the option of a full refund or of rescheduling to a future course date if available. Sheen Pottery Studio will not be liable for any losses or expenses arising from amendments to the course or cancellation.
Drop in Sessions:
Your drop in session is 2.5 hours long, please do not arrive earlier or later than the allotted time of your session.
The studio will be closed at 12:30 for an hour at lunch. Please allow plenty of time to clean up. Only the one studio stoneware clay is to be used. The drop in session fees include up to 4kg of stoneware clay per session, you can recycle or reuse this clay as required or buy additional clay at £5.00 per kilo.
There is weigh and pay system for any work that you would like to have fired at £5 per kilo at the leather hard stage. This charge includes glaze and two firings regardless or whether you glaze or not. Please record weights in the Clay Dues book and stamp your work so we know it has been recorded. Please report any damages to equipment or spillages or glaze. Damage to kiln shelves from glaze or glaze drips will be your responsibility to pay for. Please bring your own apron and take home to wash.
Technical issues and breakages:
Experienced and trained staff only will handle and fire your ceramic work. However, by the nature of ceramics there is always an element of risk of technical failure for which we cannot be held responsible. Please do not handle anyone else’s work in the studio unless invited to do so. Breaking or damaging some else’s pot is easily done.
Clay, Glaze, firing charges,
Ceramics is quite an expensive process, even more so since October 2022 and enormous increases in utility charges. In one off Taster Sessions, One to One and Private Hire sessions the clay, glaze and firing is included. In all other ongoing classes, courses and workshops you will only weigh and pay for the work that you want to have fired. Your work will be weighed at the leatherhard stage. The price per kilo as at February 2023 is £10.00 (subject to review) and this also includes the glaze and firings. The firing charges are payable regardless of whether your work is glazed or fired twice.
Cleaning: For the studio to work it requires everyone to pitch in. When you use the studio it is best practice to finishing working 10 minutes before the end of the session and do 10 minutes of cleaning where you have worked and in the communal areas. Always wet clean and sponge down any dry materials and all work surfaces. We never use a dustpan or brush in the studio. You must finish cleaning by the end of your lesson, leaving the space and equipment cleaned as you would like to find it and for the next users.
Collection of works:
Drying times of work to be fired varies depending on weather and thickness of clay. (It can take up to 6 weeks for a large piece to dry). Please allow an average of 3-4 weeks for final pieces to be fired at the end of your course. You will be notified by email when they are ready for collection. We recommend you collect your finished work as soon as possible after notification to help keep our storage area clear and to avoid any damage.
If your finished ceramic work is not collected within 2 weeks of the pick up email being sent, the studio will have to dispose of it due to space issues.
Renewal of ongoing courses:
During the 12 week ongoing and intermediate courses you will be asked if you would like to continue and will be given priority booking for the next course.

COVID STATEMENT, Current Safety measures:
Cleaning measures are in place and we have good ventilation. Regarding face coverings in the studios this is now a personal choice.
Classes: We are holding classes with very small numbers, up to 6 in most cases. Unfortunately are not able to make up for any missed class time with additional or alternative studio access. In the event of a future lockdown we would refund any cancelled classes.
The continued safety of all our users and staff is our priority and we have designed the studio with some of the features to take into consideration current H&S measures. These include; increasing ventilation, spacing out equipment to encourage social distancing where possible, reducing the overall numbers of makers in the studios, conducting regular risk assessments and encouraging everyone to wash their hands regularly – which is common practice in pottery studios anyway! If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us:
